It's funny how I begin to chronicle a new milestone in my life with so much energy, only to find that excitement dwindle to nothingness once the reality of life sets in. Sadly, what used to be a healthy time to process the ins and outs of life gets run over so that I could fill it in with Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06220944439945430717noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8028476618934319967.post-73804437811368055812012-08-30T00:33:00.003-05:002012-08-30T00:36:33.042-05:00Flowers on the Lake
A couple of weekends ago, I went kayaking on Town Lake. This is one of the small pleasures that I find in Austin. It is easy to take part in outdoor activities since the weather is mainly mild and because Austin is filled with many active people. Months ago, I bought a voucher. Since it was about to expire in 5 days, I had to make use of it quickly.
During this ride, I ran into the Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06220944439945430717noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8028476618934319967.post-79423794640799501212012-05-03T18:19:00.000-05:002012-05-03T18:40:31.478-05:00Camping FunTonight, my friends and I are heading out to camp at the Big Bend National Park. Sure, there's definitely feelings of excitement. But, I am not gonna lie. I am kinda nervous. It's not like I haven't gone camping before. However, this is the first time we're doing it backpacking style, carrying all our water, food and... (the best part) using the big outdoors as our toilet. It's pretty amazing!
Experiencing spring in the hill country of Texas is surprisingly one of my favorite experiences here in Austin. This city never fails to surprise me.
I love the fields... even patches by the highway that are filled with wildflowers bursting with fragrant colorfulness. The ones pictured above are called bluebonnets. They are everywhere!! An idea so elusive to me as of late.
Where is home?
Familiar faces that warm my winters when it's too dreary to go out,
singing by the baby grand piano
as the seductive smells of a home-cooked meal wafts from the kitchen to the living room.
I guess you can tell I feel homesick. My mind wanders to the house projects left unfinished, my clothes, books, and things that Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06220944439945430717noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8028476618934319967.post-58797425311333824012011-11-14T18:32:00.001-06:002011-11-14T18:43:36.879-06:00SCORPIONS!!!!Guess what I had to what I had to wake up to on a Monday morning!?!
Okay, maybe my title sort of gave it away.. but AHHHH!
I may be brave about a great many things. However, something that always gives me the creepy crawlies are spiders and, as I recently learned from moving to Texas, SCORPIONS! Until this morning, I only encountered one scampering across the kitchen floor last month. Brrr... Refreshing
This post is for Rina, my favorite and very missed voice teacher!
As promised, I made it to Barton Springs for a swim! This place was listed as one of the things you can do for affordably, which was indeed true at only $3 per person. The neat thing about this pool is that it is spring fed and the temperature is always at about 68 degrees. Yesterday was the Stop Child Trafficking Now 5k Walk in Austin. I was up at the crack of dawn, per usual, except for the fact that it was a Saturday! Feels almost sacrilegious. My part time job had a board meeting today. When they finished, my boss came up to inform me that there were kolaches in the break room, in case I got hungry. I know this is a random post dedicated to a taco joint. But I thought the taco was good enough to deserve a shout out. Also, for some reason, I've just been craving tacos! That night in particular, I was especially susceptible since in my attempt to eat less junk, I didn't eat nearly enough to satisfy.

One of my favorite things about living in Austin rather than the more popular Houston or Dallas, is the fact that there are rolling hills in the area instead of the typical flat. Therefore, areas of Austin is part of the aptly named "Hill Country" in Central Texas. Okay, maybe you knew. However, until last week, I had no idea. The Congress Street Bridge that spans Town Lake is home to over a million bats!

Some of my friends are under the impression that I have family everywhere.... okay.. maybe that's true. At least, it's very true for Austin. In general, I think emigrating is just a reality of Filipinos. Therefore, many of us end up at random places around the world. Also, we are so big on family that we continue to count blood relation beyond the typical American limit of first cousins. Since I am still in search of a job (anyone need a social worker?), mostly getting in the groove consists of meeting fellow Austinites and spending time with them doing things Austin-y things. Actually, the streets of downtown Austin are far from mean.
As sketchy as some areas can seem, I have walked down my share of shady streets
in New York City. Then again, this is the ignorant boasting of a green

Thursday night was a fun, relaxing evening. I joined some hundred Austinites over at the Hillside Theater in Zilker Park to watch their free summer musical, Footloose. But, let me start from the beginning. The other night, I spent an evening at an event with a church here called Gateway. This is the second event that I've attended so I'm still getting used to it.
